Environmental Management System policy
Concepts
The Angkor region contains many temples that symbolize
our nation and is designated a World Heritage Site. It comprises
local communities which are an integral part through their
long-standing traditions as well as the surrounding area
blessed with an exceptional natural environment including
forests and water.
We, the Authority for the Protection and Management of Angkor
and the Region of Siem Reap (APSARA Authority) as a government
body to manage the region, will work closely with relevant
authorities and local residents to conserve and maintain
the buildings of historical significance as well as developing
the region. Through those efforts, we will strive to create
a society in order to ensure a sustainable development for
the next generations in harmony with “nature, temples,
and villages”, or in other words “environment,
culture, and the communities”.
Policy
1. Promote environmental conservation measures that are
based on the above concepts
We will promote positive measures to save the regional environment
while adjusting to the increase of tourists and development
of the sightseeing industry to prevent pollution.
2. Promote environmental conservation activities with participation
of all stakeholders
- We will ensure a beautiful region where there is little
rubbish, by reduction of the amount of refuse and establishing
a system to deal with it.
- We will strive to maintain a wholesome aquatic environment,
including rivers, lakes, barays, moats & etc.
- We will strive to keep the quality of air constantly clean
and fresh.
- We will take good care of the precious forests and conserve
them.
3. Provide local residents with environmental education
We will provide local inhabitants as well as the APSARA
Authority staff with environmental education, in order to
raise awareness over the whole region for the preservation
of the environment.
4. Comply with relevant environmental legislation and other
requirements
We will not only comply with relevant environmental legislation
and other regulations, but will also encourage local residents
to observe these laws and rules.
5. Promote continual improvements
We will identify the impact of activities and measures on
the environment, establish an environmental management system,
which includes viable environmental objectives, targets
and action programs, and review them as necessary for continual
improvement.
6. We will keep our staff well-informed about this policy,
and announce it to the public.
