03 June 2005: The Completion
of the Restoration Work of the Northern Library of Angkor
Wat and The Towers of Prasat Sour Prat & The Inauguration
of the Safeguarding of the Bayon Temple of Angkor Thom.
The Northern Library of Angkor Wat
and the tower of Sour Prat temple were completly finished
of the restoration by the Japanese Government Team for Safeguarding
Angkor (JSA). The completion ceremony has taken place at
Angkor Wat temple compound under the Royal Patronage of
His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath NORODOM SIHAMONY,
the king of Cambodia, accompanied by H.E Sok An, Deputy
Prime Minister and representative of the Prime Minister,
H.E ONODERA Itsunori, Parlimentary Secretary for Foreing
Affairs of Japan, H.E TAKAHASHI Fumiaki, the Ambassador
of Japan, Mr. Etienne CLÉMENT, representative of
UNESCO in Cambodia as well as some high ranking officials
of Cambodian government. |



| The ceremony
was also participated by the officers of APSARA Authority,
International Organisations which are working with restoration
in Angkor and the local people who live in the sorroundings
Angkor.
In this occassion, the king provided two honor medals to
Prof.Takeshi NAKAGAWA, the General Director of JSA and Mr.
Etienne CLÉMENT, representative of UNESCO in Cambodia.
H.E ONODERA Itsunori, Parlimentary Secretary for Foreign
Affairs of Japan announced that as the result, the Government
of Japan decided to start a new project for safeguarding
the Bayon Temple.
This new project focuses on providing
further capacity building to Cambodian experts so as to
enable them to conduct restoration works by Cambodian themselves.
Finally, the king welcomes with the warmest to the local
popualtion as well as visit the librery of the Northern
of Angkor Wat and the tower of Sour Prat temple.
