19 July 2005: The Ceremony of Completion of the Conservation Work on the Banteay Srei Temple

The “Banteay Srei Conservation Project ” which is a joint project with APSARA Authority and the Swiss Government officially started at the beginning of July 2002. Now the project has been completed.

The Completion Ceremony was held at Banteay Srei temple under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath NORODOM SIHAMONI, King of Cambodia, accompanied by His Excellency Sok An, Deputy Prime Minister, H.E.Mr. Walter Fust, Director General of the Agency for Development and Cooperation of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Hans-Peter ERISMANN, the Ambassador of Switzerland and Mr. Etienne CLÉMENT, the representative of UNESCO in Cambodia as well as some high ranking officials of the Cambodian government.

The event brought together national and international institutions which are involved in Angkor as well as thousands of local villagers who live in the sorroundings of Banteay Srei Temple. On that occasion, the king would like to thank the
highly appreciated Swiss government which has sent the experts through the cooperation with APSARA Authority for the conservation of the Banteay Srei temple.

During the project, many Cambodian archaeologists and architects have the opportunity to strengthen their skills in conservation work so as to enable them to work by themselves in the future.

After delivering the speech, the king visited the Banteay Srei temple and looked at the achievements of the project on site.
