January 15, 2006: The Friendship Accord

The Friendship Accord between the APSARA Authority, the Ministry of Tourism and Military Region 4 was signed on January 15, 2006 by H.E Mr. BUN Narith, Director General of the APSARA Authority, H.E Mr. Thong Khon, Secretary of State of Ministry of Tourism, Major General Chear Morn, Head of Military Region 4, and presided by Lieutenant General Meas Sophear, Deputy Commander-in-chief of the Royal Government Arms Forces and Commander-in-chief of the Ground Forces.

 

 

 

The signed Accord is aimed at enhancing collaboration and understanding of the tri-party over their highly-interrelated work, especially in the field of preservation, tourism and security. Also, it is strive to ensure sustainable development of tourism in which any development project must integrate and have the balance of major components such as preservation and development. Hence, the concept of co-existence between nature, temple and human, on one hand, and between environment, culture and community, on the other hand, can be comprehensively balanced and attained.

In guaranteeing the successful of the above concept, concerned parties in the Accord will actively promoting security environment in the Siem Reap/Angkor region as it is always the main push-factor for tourist to visit Siem Reap and Angkor Archeological Park. Enhancing security within the region will maximize the opportunity for the heritage from being destroyed by illegal activities. Likewise, as it has always been, the unique, historical, natural and cultural landscape of Siem Reap/Angkor region required enthusiastic participation of all stakeholders to maintain its value including historical and contemporary values.

Furthermore, concerned parties agreed to strengthen human resources through various on and off-site training programs in which the APSARA Authority and the Ministry of Tourism will be fully committed to the capacity building of the family member of Military Region 4 personnel. In this regard, employment opportunity will be made available to them.
