Recent studies have found that the 41m-high tower dominating
the central part of Bayon Temple is not as structurally
stable as was generally assumed. In fact, experts point
out the danger of large-scale collapse in the event of
strong winds and heavy rain. As the central tower is the
most unique and symbolic feature of Bayon, studies are
now being carried out to assess its state of danger and
take stabilizing measures, through a framework of cross-cutting
cooperation involving the structural, vibrational science,
geological, geotechnical, and environmental engineering
fields.
