Department of Demography and Development
The Department of Demography and Development focuses on
the management of the population statistic and on the improvement
of people's living condition in Angkor Park.
Population in Angkor Park
The department has conducted a census in 102 villages,
19 communes of 5 districts in Siemreap in 2002. After the
APSARA technical staff has conducted the poll in the strongly
protected zones of Angkor Park, Zone 1 and Zone 2, the
number of villages in that area has increased. So currently
it is unknown how many villages exist in Zone 1 and Zone
2 of Angkor Park.

- 1992: population of more than 20 000
- 1998: population of more than 80 000
- 2002: population of more than 100 000
In terms of improving poeple's living conditions, the department
plans to motivate the people living around Angkor to cultivate
quality vegetables to sell to restaurants and hotels in
Siemreap. Working towards that goal, it needs to determine
what kind of lands are suitable to the different vegetables. |
