Economic development

Economic development is related to improvments in the economic condition of the people. The economic condition of the people can be improved by creating employment opportunities and professional training.

Soil experimentation

In order to improve people's living conditions in the Siemreap region, the department has experimented with the soil around Angkor and the soil taken from Tonle Sap's bottom (delta) for middle-rice cultivatiopn. Another soil experiment tries to find out what kind of land is suitable to different kinds of crop cultivation. In the future, the fertile soil which has been identified by the experiment may be used instead of the less fertile one.

This pilot project is taking place at the Agricultural Experimentation Department, Teok Vil, and at the Royal University of Agriculture (Chamkar Doung). Meanwhile, the department uses enzymes for fishing and livestock raising at the Faculty of Fishery and the Faculty of Science and Physics.

A farmer is ploughing the fertile soil of a rice field in the Angkor area, Teok Vil commune, in Pouk district, Siemreap province.

In this project, specialist Kong Chantha from the Provincial Department of Agriculture in Siemreap works part time for the department.

Professional training

In the future, the Education and Professional Training section of the Department of Demography and Development is going to focus on agriculture, especially on methods of vegetable cultivation and methods of natural fertilizer making.
