The Department of Monuments and Archaeology has many Khmer
specialists such as archaeologists, architects and engineers,
who work according to their own skills.
The Department beneficiates from the institutional support
of the FSP (French government program), with regular visits
from Experts. Consultants are also working with the different
units in the fields of archaeology, architecture and landscape
architecture.
The Department of Monuments was given responsibility to
carry out the following tasks:

Plan and implement the management of the monuments
including their maintenance, in the Angkor Park and
at the rural points of cultural interest.

Establish a scheme of protection and conservation of
the Angkor Park, in terms of its ecological and historical
value, including data on the health of the monuments
and the risks threatening them.

Guard the site inscribed on the World Heritage list,
including the buffer zone, in a continuous and lasting
fashion.

Plan archaeological surveys, excavations and all necessary
archeological prevention and safeguarding measures.
- Plan and Manage the land use in the protected zones.
- Cooperating with international teams working in the
Angkor area and making sure that they follow the archaeological
guidelines for the Angkor area.
- Put in place well-trained and well-equipped mobile teams
for the management, maintenance and archeological follow-up
of the sites.
- Contribute to the formation of archaeologists, architects
and conservation specialists in charge of the Angkor Park.
