Recently, The Department of Monument and Archaeology has
created the third issue Newsletter called "Lok Ta Raja",
No3, July 2007.
The Newsletter is about the activities of the Department
of Monument and Archaeology I and other Restoration and
Research Projects by the International Teams in Angkor.This
Newsletter is both in English and Khmer languages.
Lok Ta Raja (Ta Reach)
Lok Ta Raja is a famous local spirit who possessed in
the Eight Arms Vishnu statue located in the south part of
the Prasat Angkor Wat Western gopura. His powers are extended
and he is worshipped by Khmer people for a long time. Indeed,
they consider Lok Ta Raja as the soul of the “Universal
King”, the great commander and the chief of all Cambodian
local spirits.

Au delà des conflits d’intérêts
et de beaucoup de difficultés quelques actifs sont
à mettre en faveur du Département des Monuments
et de l’Archéologie (DMA) depuis 2001, à
savoir : création de la section de « l’archéologie
préventive », mise en place de la
« section » de Paysage à toute approche
de projets d’aménagement, contribution intensive
à la prise de conscience collective de « l’eau,
l’arbre et la population »
(cf plusieurs interventions
au CIC), organisation de plusieurs séminaires «
les Ateliers d’Angkor », favoriser l’intérêt
de la sauvegarde des stucs avec le GACP, intéresser
l’International Research Center for Japanese Studies
de Kyoto sur la préhistoire à Angkor par la
signature d’un MOU, même démarche auprès
de Ohtani Women University – Osaka sur quelques domaines
de la recherche dont celui de la céramique et création
du
« Laboratoire de Céramique d’Angkor
»
Mais il y a tant d’enjeux et de défis à
relever sur le site et le plus grand d’entre eux est
évidemment le problème de la maîtrise
de l’EAU. Une politique de l’eau est vitale
tant pour la pérennité des monuments, pour
l’industrie touristique que pour sa contribution à
l’économie nationale.

and Archeology 1 (DMA1)
The protection of the Angkor Archeological Park is one
of the main duties and obligations of everyone working for
the Apsara National Authority appointed by the Royal Government
of Cambodia. Therefore, we all have to be committed, united,
and willing to solve problems, protect and conserve the
park. If the Angkor Archeological Park is to survive for
the younger generations, we all have to work together –
not only within the Department of Monuments and Archeology
1.
In spite of many challenges when on duty, in this issue
of ‘Lok Taraja’ newsletter, we would especially
like to showcase the activities carried out by the department
and the cooperation between the Apsara National Authority
and various international teams as well as the recent events
taking place in the Angkor Archeological Park.
