Surrounding Management Unit
The Surrounding Management Unit consists of a group of
architects, engineers and landscape architect in charge
of the surroundings of the monuments.
Preliminary studies led to a visitor's circulation plan
on the whole Angkor Archaeological Park. According to that,
the sensible sites are studies in order to develop surrounding
management plans.
Visitor facilities (such as toilettes, parking, restaurants,
souvenir shop and resting places) are gathered into what
is called a "Parvis" or approach area near each
temple or group of temples. The "Parvis" are following
three guidelines:
- Entrance of the visitors by the main historical entrance
of the temple (East).
- Surroundings enhancement for site comprehension.
- Open the space between the welcome point of visitors
and the temple.
There are planned according to the architectural and landscape
prescriptions that have been set up.
Besides studying the Parvis project, we also completed
many different works such as:
- To study the Project of electrical bicycle parking in
Angkor Park.
- To control the construction site of the shoes shop (shoes
prevent the erosion of sandstone) in Angkor Park.
- To study the Project concerning the information panel.
- To study the plan of a "SALA" (rest house)
at Kbal Spean site.
The Surrounding Management Unit is working closely with
the Archaeological Unit, so that the projects are taking
the archaeological risk into consideration. Together, they
are also following the urban development and are proposing
landscape and archaeological protection or enhancement measures.
