Water supply
The Department of Urbanization and Development in Siemreap
Angkor Region has handed over the responsibility for the
water supply to the provincial water supply department The
department is only involved with some of the technical studies.
Many people in Siemreap now use the underground water, which
causes shortages and may contribute to the decay and eventually
collapse of temples and other ancient monuments. The department
has collaborated with Japanese International Cooperation
Agency (JICA) to look at the reservoir of the water supply.
There are two major sources to supply the water needed by
the people in the city: the water from the Western Baray
and the water from the Kulan mountains. But in the future
these two resevoirs will not be enough for the water demands
of the city.
As the Department of Water andf Forests has been created,
all of the tasks related to water management will transfered
to the new department.
